Charlie Moon, the Ute tribal investigator, returns in a particularly thorny case. A prosecutor is shot dead, evidently by a sniper, while dining at a restaurant. Who, police wonder, could possibly want a prosecuting attorney dead--other than plenty of ex-cons and defendants with revenge on their minds? But, seemingly out of nowhere, comes Manfred Blinkoe, an orthodontist who was also at the restaurant. He is absolutely convinced that he, not the dead attorney, was the intended victim. Police don't have time for this obvious loony, so they pass him on to the one man they know can handle him: Charlie Moon.
